Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers knew replacing Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling wasn't going to be easy.
They brought in Sammy Watkins and took three promising wideouts in the NFL Draft. However, it still feels like they could do better with what's still available in free agency.
Packers GM Brian Gutekunst is quite high on second-round pick Christian Watson. He thinks he can make an impact right away thanks to his athletic traits:
“The speed and the size jump off the tape,” Gutekunst told SiriusXMNFL. “That’s certainly going to give us something to take the top off the defense. With MVS leaving in free agency, that will replace that I think initially.”
Then again, even if they don't want to admit it, the Packers know that's not enough. That's why they're reportedly keeping tabs on Julio Jones, Jarvis Landry, and Odell Beckham Jr., according to Ian Rapoport.
"I think the Packers are going to be involved in this market," Rapoport said on The Pat McAfee Show. "And this is actually a great market for them because let’s say you’re Jarvis Landry... or maybe even better for the Packers let’s say you’re Julio Jones and you’re not going to get $15 million, you’re probably not going to get $10 million, the Packers would be one of the teams you want to join where maybe you make $3 million with some incentives but you know you got a chance to make a Super Bowl."
The Packers represent a great opportunity for veteran wideouts looking to compete for a ring or trying to get their market value up, such as OBJ:
"That actually is attractive, so we got Odell, who obviously had interest from the Packers last time, you have Julio, who I would imagine would get some interest from there, Landry, who I don’t know has gotten interest from the Packers, but all those guys would make sense for Green Bay who, I would say, might add another receiver at some point," Rapoport added.
But regardless of who's catching his passes, the Packers will still be a contender for as long as Aaron Rodgers lines up behind center.
He's proven over and over that he can do wonders with limited talent around him, so there's no reason to think the can't lead them to the top of the NFC North once again in 2022.
