Coronavirus, record inflation, high gas prices, the Russian attack on Ukraine are all having a major impact on President Joe Biden's political standing.
Biden entered the White House with a relatively high favorability rating, and his job approval hovered around 50 percent for months. But things took a turn for the worse soon enough.
Now, Biden is less popular than ever.
A new Investors Business Daily/TIPP poll found that Biden's approval rating has fallen significantly and is approaching his previous record low set in February.
In the poll, 39 percent of respondents said they approve of Biden's performance in office, while 47 percent said they do not.
In February, just 38 percent approved of the way Biden is handling his job, while 48 percent disapproved.
In comparison, 42 percent approved of Biden's job performance back in April.
Unsurprisingly, Democrats believe Biden is doing a good job, and Republicans do not.
In the poll, 76 percent of Democrats said the approve of the way Biden is handling the presidency -- more than in February, when 66 percent approved.
As for Republicans, 84 percent of them said they disapprove of Biden's performance.
Independent voters, which are a key voter group, do not appear to be too fond of Biden: 58 percent of them in the poll said they do not approve of his job performance, while 27 percent said they do.
The biggest problem for Biden is the state of the economy, it seems.
Just 29 percent of respondents in the poll said they approve of the president's economic policies, while 47 percent said they disapprove.
Notably, independent voters disapprove by a 58-15 percent margin.
Americans are not too happy with how Biden is handling the Russia-Ukraine war either, according to the poll: 42 percent said they disapprove of his performance in this regard, and 34 percent said they approve.
As for the coronavirus pandemic, 40 percent of respondents in the poll said they disapprove of the job Biden is doing, while 37 percent said the opposite.
As Stuart Rothenberg of Roll Call recently pointed out, Biden has made it clear he intends to run for reelection, though he will be 82 years old in 2024.
If, for some reason, he doesn't run, most insiders expect Vice President Kamala Harris to step in his shoes -- but the problem for Democrats is that Harris is even less popular than Biden.
Likewise, it is unclear if any other Democrat will challenge Biden in 2024, but history shows that such challenges are usually unsuccessful anyway.
